I'm picking my Silverado 3500 LT D/A in two days... yippee !

A simple question. I know that it has a second DC power port in the console. Does it still have power when the key is removed?

Thanks !

Apparently so because if I don't unplug my phone charger it will run the batteries down after a week of not being driven.
This is an 02 though.

Yes it stays on. My charged light was on this morning before I started it...unless having the block heater magically keeps the electrical system on smile.gif

How do you access that port? It appears that there's a port cap there but no DC recepticle. Do I need to punch out the hole and wire in the recepticle?

I just went and looked at mine. It seems to have some sort of plastic cap where the power port should be. What's the deal??? Maybe it has something to do with the modle year or the fact it's an extended cab.

Flip the cap down it's there. At least on mine it's there.

There's no cap to flip down! Only the molded form of a cap and a thin plastic hinge form. It's a facade. Anyone retro fit a recepticle? This must be like the 4X4 panel light that comes on in some trucks when 4X4 is engaged...

I have no power port in the console. Just a punch out shape where one should be.

I think some are confused?

On the 01 and the 02s the DC ports are in the dash just to the left of the ash tray (coin holder for me)..

There are no DC ports INSIDE the center console..

03s may have them INSIDE the console...

Correct?

JeffR,
The 4x4 light in the dash comes on for the people who have the Manual shift 4x4.. For thoses of us with the cushy pushy button 4x4, we have a light that comes in the panel..

Why is the console molded for one then???

firstdiesel,

The reason, because they also use the same console in the Suburban/Tahoes and those probably have the DC power outlets installed.
:D

That doesn't mean that you cannot install one yourself. smile.gif

The console receptacle is $7. from my local dealer – I’m just not sure how clean it would look by drilling or cutting out the molded impression. Thanks for the info SteveO - although I’m still a little confused. Wally’s apparently has the console outlet in his ’02 (probably just a late mfg date) – also, I’m sure your explanation on the 4X4 light is accurate but several people posted some time ago that w/ our push button 4Xs, the panel light still comes on. I also printed the instructions from someone’s post on how to change the wiring so the panel light does come on.
