Wanted all of your to be aware, if you haven't had this problem. It may be inherent of Minnesota's road salts, but watch your tailgate straps for corrosion and braking (snapping). I've experenced 3 different chevy's that have had the strap snap when the customers put down the tailgate when picking up product at work. I was unloading some seed and had 3 bags (180 lbs) on mine and then "snap". I've had far more weight on the gate then that in the past. The corrosion was black powder colored in the center of the cable. Most likely water/moisture/salt sits there when gate is closed and strap is in the U-shape. No damage was done to my tailgate, outside of a dust mark on the gate/paint, as when it snaps the gate slams into the bumper. If you think yours is at risk, cut into it, in the center of the strap, and see if it's corroded. If it checks out, seal it up again. I'm debating if I should not seal it up, to allow moisture to excape. Sure wish GM had the old type straps. . . . Don't get hurt and Happy New Year!

I had the same thing happen on two of my past trucks. The worst was that one time it broke when I was loading an ATV. It put a nice scratch/dent in the tailgate when it hit the bumper. New straps are $8, but I sure wish they were better quality and a better set up.
