I have a GM-5 turbo that is starting to show radial play at the impeller, and will probably need rebuild/replacement soon.(115,000 miles)I have several questions:
1. Does GM offer a rebuild kit?
2. Is it more cost effective to exchange it?
3.If rebuilt, where is the best place to obtain tech data on inspection, torques, clearances, runouts, etc.
I work in aviation (APU overhaul) and have access to wide variety of precision measuring equipment,NDI/NDT, balance equipment, and special tools.
Thanx

The Warner-IHI GM turbos have full-floating bearings, so considerable radial clearance is acceptable, as long as the wheel does not contact the housing at max axial\radial limits.
Run the engine to normal operating temps, check the clearances immediately after power-down, when the bearings have full oil supply.
Should be considerably less clearance than when cold, and the oil has drained back into the pan.
