View Full Version : Exhaust brake thought?
Does anyone know if it is possible to have an exhaust brake activated with the tow/haul button, instead of a seperate switch? Just a thought  good/bad?
I had the Banks Exhaust Brake installed on my '03 D/A. There is an illuminated, dash mounted on-off switch for the brake. But as I remember, the exhaust brake is only enabled when in Tow Haul mode-- so in effect that's what you're asking for. One down side: when that illuminated switch is on, cruise control cannot be engaged. I am very happy with this brake's performance by the way. --wheeler

If you go with Banks, be aware there have been problems with there 4" brake sticking CLOSED! The result is a loss of power. Mine is now disabled due to this problem, and I have read on other forums about other folks having the same problem. Mine stuck closed a week ago in heavy traffic in the St.Louis area. This was the third time it had happened in a month. I had to pull over to the side of a FIVE LANE highway and crawl under the truck in the dark and cut the air lines and still couldn't get the piston pushed back to the open position. A good citizen in a Dodge cummins stopped to lend a hand. We had to use a hammer to beat the piston back. Long story short he had tools with him, I didn't. I will never say a bad word about Dodge again.
So with my experience and at least three others I have read about,,one on this page in the towing forum, I would say they have a problem with certian brakes they have sold. OH I called Banks about my problem and did not get a very good response. It was like why are you calling us take it back where you bought it.
I am thinking about having a Banks Exhaust brake installed on my 01 Dmax/Allison. How has it worked for your folks. Good to hear the comments about the sticking problem. I have a call into Banks. Hope they get back to me soon. Your thoughts are appreciated.

I have the DB brake (pruchased from Kennedy) and it has worked quite well for approx. 50K miles. 2 trips from California to east coast and back pulling 30' 5th wheel.
