View Full Version : CV Joint Issues Anyone?

Has anyone who has lifted the front end of their truck with the torsion bars--using either factoy or aftermarket keys--had any CV joint problems?

For those of you without any problems, how many miles do you have on your set-up and how much did you raise the nose of the truck?

A friend of mine has told me of problems with Toyota IFS CV joints when the torsion bars were cranked up, and he thinks the GM trucks may have the same problems.

afp,
Don't know how correct this is, but, from what I have heard don't go over 1 1/2 inches of lift from cranking on T-bars if you want to avoid premature CV joint wear. Hope it helps.

I went up between 2-3 inches. I've driven it for over 20000 miles and no problems. It will need an alignment though.

I went up almost one inch and there is a noticeable differance in the CV joint angle, but I did get it off the rubber stops. I suggest anyone with a lot of lift keep a close eye on the rubber boot covers they should be the first to go.

Almost 10K with the "green keys" and no problems. So far, anyway...

40K on the '01, no problems. Current owner hasn't had any issues with it either, and IIRC the truck is up around 55K.

7K on the '03, nothing yet... Both trucks are cranked up about 8 turns, or 2-3 inches.

I know of MANY trucks running this same setup with no issues.

Thanks guys. The more research I do the fewer problems I see. My own truck has 15,000 miles with a 1 3/4" lift on Hill Country Keys. Billy14 tols me he has 67,000 miles on his stock bars cranked up about 2". Neither of us have had any issues.
