I as changing my transmission oil on my 01 DM the other day. While adding oil I noticed some corrosion around the Pos. terminal of the upper battery. On closer inspection I could see that the whole "post" was corroded. I gave it the baking soda treatment, then penetrating oil. I gently tried to loosen the battery bolt and murphy's law kicked in. The bolt snapped and the mating surface of the battery came off attached to the bolt. The entire inner threads of the battery are covered with acid corrosion. I have had other GM vehicles with this problem, but only when the batteries were very old. My truck is only 32 months old. I am off to buy a new battery today and very unhappy. Any one else have this problem. maybe you should check your batteries for this problem.

I replaced my secondary battery about a month ago due to leaking. AC Delco batteries suck. I had a 99 Z71 and the battery started leaking within 2 years.

Lost both of mine within the 36 mo warr to leaks.
Why are you off to buy a battery when it is covered under the 3 - 36 warranty?

Have to watch battery cable corrosion today a lot closer on side mount terminals than when they were first introduced. Even with that in mind, I had to clean the right side battery positive cable this weekend for the same reason you described. White stuff had already began eating the retaining bolt. All other battery connections were in excellent condition. The dealer has had this battery disconnected several times in the 61,000 mile life to access repairs.

2001 Duramax, still stock and running good.

With a dual battery system it’s best to change both batteries at the same time. If the batteries aren't load balanced one may overcharge and fail prematurely.

jackmchome: My truck is long out of warranty:60,000 miles. I doubt they would cover corrosion anyway. THanks

Delco knows the batteries are failing. Both of mine had to be replaced at 24 months. I would try the dealer, just be nice to him, you never know. Good Luck

Just had my battery, tray, and tie down bolt replaced under warranty for the same reason. I guess red tops will be on my dime......
