I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere. if there's a link please redirect me. Thanks.

My 02 GMC engine clatter gets a much louder and rattle sounding close to the end of a shift under mild to heavy acceleration.

Brothers 01 Chevy does it too but he said it got better as more miles were put on. He's over 80K.
I'm at 32K.

It most likely the pilot injection shuting off, which is normal. I'm not an expert, but the pilot injection gives a small squirt of fuel before the actual combustion which helps keep our trucks quiet. It can only do this so fast, so once a certain RPM/load is reached it shuts off and you get the normal diesel sound. Someone else will be able to do a much better job of explaining, but I think I hit the basics.
