View Full Version : HEADLIGHT ADJUSTMENT
Can someone tell me how to adjust the headlights on a 2004 chevy? Thanks
They have your typical adjuster screws for vertical and horizontal adjustment. Screws are accessed from above. Innermost one is horizontal.
I have a Hoppy headllight aiming kit that I use that gets them pretty darn close. You can also just use a flat surface. Be sure to aim them somewhat down and out. About 1
My adjusters ('04 GMC) are on either corner.
Seems like any adjustment is a corner to corner type adjustment. Not a true UP/DOWN and LEFT/RIGHT but a side to side angle.
Or am I missing something?

It's set up like above. The 0 is the pivot ball. The upper + is the inner or horizontal, and the lower + is the vertical adjuster.

The 2003 and newer model year Chevy's only have a vertical adjuster on the top middle of the lamp housing. I didn't realize GMC still used both, until I read Lawnboy's post.
The Chevy diagram looks like this, as a result.

Tried it without the dashes, but the forum ate a bunch of the spaces. Glad you caught my copyright Dennis, I'd hate to have to sue you... ;)
So how does GM intend for the lights to be adjusted horizontally?

Mine have both vertical and horizontal adjustments.
The lights should be adjusted level. On level ground pull up to a wall/building/whatever, bumper touching, and mark where the lights hit. then back up 30' and see if the beam moves at all. It should stay the same or drop a little (1").
If you ever have to take the light assemblies off the truck, DON'T drop them. It will knock the alinment out, beleive me. Thats how I found the horizontal alinment.
