Has ANYONE changed the gears on a Dmax Ally to a taller gearing. I am looking at changing to around a 2.8 or so. My math tells me that I should get around 5 MPG more.

I would like any imput anyone has. Even if its not from a Dmax

Thanks
Trent

If your driving includes mostly high speed Interstate travel and no towing, I'd recommend 3.42 gears. This combination produces approximately 2000 rpm at 80 mph with 31" tall tires. Going too tall, and you could be below the engine torque peak, which will cause frequent downshifts and could actually reduce fuel economy.

Our Project Duramax (http://www.thedieselpage.com/features/project2-16.htm) is equipped with 3.42 gears, and delivers nearly 25-mpg at 75-80 mph. Part of this is the light weight of the truck.

Contact Randy's Ring & Pinion (http://www.ringpinion.com) to see what's available for the AM1150 axle.
