I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with a 1985 6.2L truck. When the accelerator is pressed slightly the engine revs at an uncontrollable high rpm. To stop it I have to back off of the pedal. The truck idles fine but it surges when driven. Anyone have any ideas?
This isn't a linkage issue, the pedal is not sticking.
Thanks..Leon McHugh

By backing off do you mean you have to remove your foot from the accelerator pedal, or that you have to use your foot to pull the pedal back? Check to see if the throttle return spring on the pump is broken or disconnected.

No, I don't have to pull the pedal back. It works fine. I just take my foot off of the pedal.
