Good Day!

When the sign says, "6% grade" or "6% hill," what does that mean? 6% of 90

Percent grade and degrees are two different animals. No direct correlation between the two terms. A 6 percent grade is a change of 6 feet in 100 feet. The math is 6 divided by 100 times 100 (to get percent). 6 degrees over a distance of 100 feet would be 10.51 feet.

It's the slope in rise over run or the vertical change divided by the horizontal distance. If you went up 5 feet for each 100 feet of travel, that is 5/100 or 5%. If you went up a 45 degree ramp, that is up 100 feet per 100 feet of travel or 100/100. 100% slope.

Good Day!

Wow, thanks! I never would have guessed that was how it was figured.

Blessings!

I know trains need cogs at more than 5%.Yet,a 5% discount doesn`t seem like much.5% tax adds up quick.But,5%of sex ain`t enough.5% unemployment is somewhat acceptable.But,5% milk is supposed to kill you.My .05. tongue.gif
