View Full Version : "new" 5th wheel trailer
Finally got a travel trailer for my dually. A Layton "Funtime" 21' 5th wheel trailer. Has 2 axles and is relativly light, 4000# empty. Wanted a light trailer for the relatively underpowered 6.2. If I had a Duramax would go for a bigger trailer, but that is not in the budget. Have towed over 7000# with the dually, so extra wind resistance is only extra factor. Planning a trip to Canada later this year. Not sure if I will make it to Utah meeting, have a steam meet that same weekend.

Craig, Where you going to in Canada? Where you coming from? We do alot of camping in Ontario,Canada nice there!.
I had a lot less truck b-4 when I went to Utah, and really struggled with my 5.4 Ford, they got some super big mountains going there from the east. It was even the mountains as much as the headwind, WOW.
With the Dmax Diesel it would be a snap, it never wimpers a bit,it doesn't know what work is.
I am going to be a bit West of you James. Just South of Edmonton in Alberta. Thre Historical Construction Equipment Association (HCEA) is having their annual meeting there. We have not been to this area of Canada so plan on some sightseeing/camping.

Excellent choice for a vacation.Lots to see and do. If I can help with info- etc, please advise. I live in Alberta.
Thanks Royalglen. Are planning on getting a AAA tour guide book and looking at it, but your advice would be appreciated. Plan on going up Interstate 5 to Vancouver. Eventually need to get to Wetaskiwin (just South of Edmonton on 2). Could take Highway 1 to Calgary, but friend suggested road up to Prince George would be nice. That would be 1 to 97, Prince George, then South on 16. Appear to be some nice parks along 16. Was thinking of dropping the family and the 5th wheel at the park then taking the dually and me to the HCEA show. Family is not as interested in old equipment as I. They would be a few days without a vehicle so a park with busses or tours or walking would be nice. For return trip plan on going South on Interstate 15.
Craig,
Kamloops to Jasper is a much prettier drive than thru Prince George.

Craig M you would enjoy either route through Britsh Columbia to Alberta. If your interested in old equipment the Reynolds Museum is very good.I might add that I ran some of that old equipment. In the late 50`s I moved dirt with a 6 Wheel Euclid(I think it had an Allison Trans)On the first runways of Edmonton International Airport. So I also am old equipment. If we can be of any help pull us up under DLDFARMS.com and call.
Yes the Reynolds Museum will be part of the HCEA show. Reynolds permanant exhibits plus many mobile pieces (brought in by HCEA members) will be at the HCEA show.
