Just purchased 2006 Siverado Duramax Diesel with Allison Transmission. My question is how to use the Range Selection Mode. The sales person I bought this truck from said that I need to put it in a specific gear each time I use the truck. Can I put in any gear I want when I AM moving? What is best to pull with? Any input will be very much appreciated.

Are you talking about when using Manual mode in P-R-N-D-M-1 or something else?

I would imagine when pulling in California, since you are suppose to do 55, locking it out of 6th gear would be beinficial, I guess that would be range 5, since at those low RPM,s it will want to down shift all the time. i would imagine it wouldnt even go into 6th gear at 55 pulling a trailer. From what i understand you can down shift/up shift when ever kind of like a manual transmission.

I would put the selector I D and drive it. If you find it shifting a lot at cruising speeds, I'd try M and limit to 5, but I think you'll be fine in full auto mode based on my brief test drive...

You are right-put it in drive and traveled in some the mountains with some pretty good grades-the transmission shifted down once and never missed a lick. Very happy with the way the truck handled-only got about 11 miles per gallon.
Hope it gets better as more miles are put on.
