I have just installed an EGT guage in anticipation of pulling my 12K TT to Alaska. What is the Max SAFE EGT temp for my 2003 Dmax/Allison?
Thanks

AWWW Mannnn, I wanna go with you. I'm gonna do that one of these days. Been there twice, but not with the trailer. I think most folks agree that for sustained runs try to keep it below 1200 F. You can go higher for short durations without hurting anything, but its a long haul to Alaska and back. I'd suggest you give John Kennedy a call at Kennedy Diesel and he can give you a complete detailed explanation of how hard to push the temps.

I pulling a 9500 LBS 5th wheel and running 75MPH and holding EGT at 1050 degrees. When I climb a 6% grade I do not let them go over 1,300 degrees.

Are we talking pre or post turbo temps?

My probe is post turbo, right where the manifold connects to the down pipe. Running around town in Tucson, Temp around 90 outside I get a reading of 500 to 600, on the interstate around 700 @ 70 MPH. I haven't hooked up my 12K TT since I got the EGT guage. So if anybody can tell me what to expect pulling I would appreciate it. The local shop, Desert Diesel, said that the max post turbo temp should be 1100 degrees.

Got back from the Phoenix- Tucson area after spending the winter about 6 weeks ago.
Pulled a 14k fiver.
Post turbo temps ran 900-1050 which seemed a little high to me.
This was with a 2005 K2500.
Had a 2001 K2500 and it never went above 900.
The 2005 turbo is not as aggressive as the 2001,
wish it would move more air at moderate load, but suspect GM limits at at all but max loads to keep the exhaust temps up to improve the cat. efficiency.
Now how do we wake that turbo up?

Roc -- Post turbo, you need to subtract about 300

Thanks guys, I will be leaving for AK around June 1, I think I'll try to stay around 1000 on the safe side. I've pulled with this truck before, but w/o a guage on some long grades in NM, I-40 west of Albuq. I just let the cruise make the decisions, didn't have any problem, but I wondered if I was pushing too much.
