Charging System

I own a 2001 X-Cab 2500HD TD that when I start the truck when cold the alternator takes about 10 seconds to come on line. Its not a charging gauge problem because when the gauge dose move the dash and head lights get brighter. Is this normal for this vehicle or do I have a problem with the alternator.

Completely normal.

At startup, the glow/afterglow cycle and intake heating grid will cause the current drop, along with the drain from the starter. The colder it is, the longer the cycle.
