Hi Dr. Lee,
I have a 93 GMC 6.2L with an hydromatic trans, on a plate i saw the markings KD.P.
What should i be looking at to have it rebuilt, and would it be cheaper/better to buy a remanfactured transmission at Autozone?
I have 191,000 miles the truck was my fathers and now i have it. It runs fine now but when a relay went in the trans, the mechanic, gave me an estimate of one year more on the OD gear... well more than one year and 30,000+ miles later, I am wondering what to expect. The estimate I was given for a rebuild landed in the 5000.00 range...
thank you

Does the transmission have four ranges on the shift pattern, 1 2 D OD ?

Is the transmision pan almost perfectly square? If yes to both of these, then you have a 700R4 or a 4L60 transmission. In 1993, it might be a 4L60E.

In Florida, the place to go is Fourth Gear Inc., just north of Orlando. See them on the web at
http://www.fourthgearinc.com/index.html

and check the prices. Don can arrange for local installation for less than $500.
