Dr. Lee,

I am currently in the search mode for the engine for the project Blazer. I'm still up in the air as to whether or not I'm going to run the new GEP block. I figured I would look into used engines around here to see if I could find a good core inexpensively. From what I have read, the 599 block was offered in both 6.2 and 6.5 versions. What were the production run dates for these blocks? Do all 599 6.2 blocks have enough meet for an overbore to 6.5 specs?

Thanks in advance,
Waldo

Someone else will have to tell us the years for the -599 block, but 1991-1993 should get the bulk of them.

And yes, every 6.2L -599 can be bored to 6.5L. When they were being cast, the foundry had no idea which would be 6.2L and which would be 6.5L, and that is the way GM wanted it, so there would be less WIP (work in progress) inventory and more flexibility for demand swings.

Dr. Lee

Are the "new-design" bare blocks available from GEP?Who besides Peninsular even sells GEP blocks/engines?Also,is there any advantage to the"599s"other than being able to bore a 6.2 to 6.5?

marine diesel usa sells them, but only in an assembled long block, can't buy a bare casting......already tried that. Supposedly those guys sapped a bunch of information from jamie at the desiel depot and then wouldn't sell him any bare blocks.

I have a chance of purchasing a (599) block that has a .020 overbore 6.5. My question is if I get this block what can I bore this already .20 over
stock 6.5 block.
Thanks
