Started the truck this afternoon and it stalled while backing up. Started right up again.

But almost immediately I noticed the needle on the fuel gauge start going up like someone was filling my tank. It just kept going! In fact, the gauge is pegged at about the 5:00 position, WAY past the "full" mark and almost touching the speedometer markings.

I thought I'd seen everything with a vehicle but this is a new one on me. Any thoughts? Tank was half full when this happened.

As always, thanks.

When there is a broken wire between the gauge and sender, a bad sender, or the ground connection is lost at the sender, a GM fuel guage will go to "full" and well beyond.

If you are able to get to the gauge wire near the tank, and GROUND it, the gauge should drop to "E", if the gauge and wiring back to the point you are grounding it are OK.

Bob, thanks a million. Great info, as always from the Diesel Page.
