How about a high miles contest?

Any year 6.5, highest mileage recorded on the odometer wins - your choice of any TDP Book (http://www.thedieselpage.com/books.htm).

If you win, we'll need a digital photo of the odometer and at least one good front 3/4 exterior photo, along with a couple paragraphs of text describing the truck/SUV's history and your use of it. The miles don't have to be all yours, but should be all with the same engine. smile.gif

I know I won't be close but someone has to start.
My truck is just ready to turn 197,000 I have owned the truck since new and it's the OEM engine.
slightly modified of course.

230,000 + on chassis - 6,000 + on third engine...

I've got a buddy who has a '96 w/19X,000 miles on the odometer. The odometer quit working 2 yrs ago though... He racks up alot of miles a year, I'd guess it has nearly 240K on it now. The first engine went 19X,000, he's been through 2 more in the last 2 yrs...

Bought my '94 with 167K and a real tight engine. I mean real tight . The JimmyJohnson I got it from locked it up! Put in an 8K take out. At 172K broke the crank(residual damage from the wreck that landed the engine in the salvage yard in the first place. It was in front of a 5spd!) Swapped block, crank, rods. At 198K front cam bearing walked out the back of the journal(where'd my oil pressure go?! ) New cam bearings installed with Sleeve Retainer LocTite. Currently at 212K and asking for new batteries. I'd like to just jack one wheel up and let her run so I can get my hands on that book, but with the cost of fuel and repairs I'd better just order it!

387,000 kms. About 240,000 miles.

I've only had the truck a year and a half but the numbers match and I don't think it's had any major work other then the pump.

GM has no history on the truck so the pump change must have been out of warranty.

I've replaced the lift pump and ops. Starter. 3 ball joints (and it needs a new pitman arm). Water pump (the old one was fine, I just went to a high flow pump). Oh and it got two new batteries when I bought it. And a new PMD on a cooler.

Runs well, starts well.

In addition to a choice of any book, TDP will throw in a free Option A renewal and a 6.5L TD hat/t-shirt (we're working on the design now - will available before spring).

How long do you guys want to run the contest?

Sure wish I could prove if the engine was rebuilt or if it was replaced at 170K. Truck is now past 440K but I can't prove the lineage of the engine.

It has started to gurgle in the overflow tank when accelerating cold, and has eaten about two quarts in the last 1,500 miles. I think I am seeing the writing on the wall

1994 K2500HD 434,120. Has original miles never worked on. The injection pump was replaced 2 times and the turbo once and the 4L80 has been rebuilt once. This Truck has made many 1000 mile plus trips towing 22,000 GVW. I parked it 2 days ago with water in the oil. I am doing the research to build a new engine for it. My grandfather owned the truck for 4 years I have owned it ever since. This is the original engine.

I know I'm in the wrong section, but I'd like to throw one in. My 86 has 255,000 km (160,000 miles) and is all original (heads, gaskets, crank, etc...) I've added a few goodies, but it works better than new. Will burn a 1/2 quart in 1000 pulling miles, about 1/2 of that leaks out, but who's counting ?

There is a girl that works at Tim Horton's in town and her hubbie's old 89 C2500 Ext cab 6.2 shows 640,xxx km (401,000 miles) on the clock. An old fella used it to transfer garbage roughly 160 miles a day for years. He says the only things he wore out were the seat, the tranny, and himself....lol

I'm not even close at 197K on the original engine. Everything but a nut on the rear left bumper has been changed, but the engine itself is original. Wait...this is the wifes rig...which should be like dog years right, so I think I really have like 985,000 miles on it. :D

I just bought a '95 Crew Cab Dually with 205k miles on it, but the crank is broken. Probably won't be a contender! Maybe if you do a contest in a few years....
But on a different note...I just sold my 2000 Windstar minivan with 410k miles on the original engine & trans, and have a '91 Caprice wagon, 305, with 397k on it. With gas at $2.85+ a gallon, I'm thinking of putting a 5.7 Olds Diesel in the Caprice wagon. Should be worth at least 28-30 mpg. Until it breaks.
The only thing I don't have with high miles is my wife. But then again, we do have three kids...

Why not a 6.2???
I thought about a 6.2, but they are very heavy and much bigger than the original 305 engine. And I don't think the cooling system would be anywhere near adequate without an expensive, custom radiator. The 5.7 Olds diesel was OEM in the early 80's B & C body Delta 88's, 98's Caddy's, etc., which have the same basic frame design as the '91-96 Caprices. Everything would be a bolt-in, radiator, engine mounts, front springs, transmission, etc. Those were the cars that first exposed me to diesels, and it might be fun to try one again. Those big old boxy cars got 27-28 mpg, so who knows how well the much more aerodynamic bubble-style would do. Of course, finding a useable drivetrain may be a bit difficult now. My last one used so much oil that I carried a 5 gallon bucket of used motor oil in the trunk. Just an idea for now...

I just bought my old truck back. I bought it the first time at an auction with 140,000 miles. I ran it to work 90 miles one way for some time. I sold it the other year to a farmer with 211,000 miles. It took him 12,000 miles to bump the TV cable loose and burn the transmission. Now with 223,000 miles transmission was dropped this weekend to be rebuilt.

Have a bet with my father that the engine will not see 300,000, I hope to do it with Biodiesel I make in the shop.

I love my '96 k2500! I bought it in May '06 with 327,000 km. I'm about to turn 340,000 km. I was told it's original, I'm the 3rd owner. I just replaced the IP last month, and the truck runs and drives tight and solid. I had a 93 Dodge for 3 years right before this truck. Although it had only about 97,000km when I bought it and 147,000 when I sold it, the Chev drives way smoother! The Cummins was definately a stronger mill, but the rest of the package doesn't nearly compare. Cheers! Brett

I purchased the truck new and have been the primary driver. The milage is on the original engine never been further down than for injector pumps about 3 or 4 of those. I consider this excellent since it has been hard mileage. The 4:11 gears wind it pretty high and the manual trans dosen't idle on down hill grades. On one trip to Montana we ran it at 3200 rpms for 9 hours straight with only wheel bearing problems.

244,000 miles on my beast, a '96 GMC K2500 only thing changed out on motor was injectors at 240,000 miles first time, oil pressure switch and obviously a PMD. I also changed the turbo to larger freer flowing one cause the gm turbos are junk and most likely would have killed my motor by now cause of high drive pressure. Im basically running an all original motor.

For piece of mind im soon gonna swap out the harmonic damper and crank pulley and possible timing set

http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/photopost/data/500/medium/20160111_074323.jpg

No real major problems at all. Just normal stuff like several FSD's, one injection pump, alternator, A/C compressor, couple of starters, etc. Never touched the engine internals or even had to replace a glow plug yet.

I've owned the rig since 174K were on the clock. I think it had one injection pump during that time as well.
