How about a high miles contest?

Any year 6.2, highest mileage recorded on the odometer wins - your choice of any TDP Book (http://www.thedieselpage.com/books.htm).

If you win, we'll need a digital photo of the odometer and at least one good front 3/4 exterior photo, along with a couple paragraphs of text describing the truck's history and your use of it. The miles don't have to be all yours, but should be with the same engine. smile.gif

It has been so long since MP had a 6.2L truck, that he may have overlooked the fact that we only show up to 99,999.9 miles on the odometer. So we probably need another rule - entrants will be on the honor system to accurately state how many times the odometer has rolled over. Otherwise whoever is closest to 99,999.9 showing, without going over will win. I am showing 66,404, but am on my second engine (see avatar at left).

Dr. Lee is right. No way to tell how many times the odo has turned over. In my case, most of the maintenance and repairs were done by me, so no paper trail.

The odo on my '85 shows 28,319.7.
It has turned over 5 times, and the mileage includes about 20K with a broken speedo cable, and about 50K with 10% oversize tires. That adds up to about 550K miles. It's not likely it'll turn over again.

The engine is original. The only exception may be the head gaskets and timing set were replaced at about 280K as preventive maintenance only. The engine was running fine at the time.

In any case, I would disqualify myself from the contest.

I'm displaying 38,358 (actually 138,358) on original engine. I expect others will have much higher mileage than that on an original engine! :D

As we post results, it might be nice to know how many miles you got out of your previous engine(s), if you're not on the original any more.

249,700 on the Suburban, 242k on the Blazer. No internal engine surgery. Can I combine the two? ;)

damn sub......155,000....rebuilt.

I love this truck u guys...I just got it back after 2 months without it...Let me take this opportunity to throw a big shout out to denny at north west fuel injection in north west ohio...had my truck for a week and a half and they took care of it like it was their own...I spent some money...but having a compotent and honest diesel guy is well worth it.

No way I could have done the work on my own...Great to be back on the road in my beasty.
Gave her a bath today....and wouldn't you know it started to snow...still.

Up the ante....

In addition to a choice of any book, TDP will throw in a free Option A renewal and a 6.2L Diesel hat/t-shirt (we're working on the design now - will available before spring).

How long do you guys want to run the contest?

My truck got just over 97800 on the clock. When I got it from the previous owner it was on 12000 and he said it hit the 00000 three times. I swapped heads  so I suppose that disqualify this old truck but it still going strong. :D

The 85 has 341K miles with 300K on original 6.2L.
The 96 has 225K miles on the original 6.5TD.

We've had pretty good luck with these engines.

I had 246,000 on the original engine in the NA form that eventually was pulled for low compression but ran great( who know how long it could have went!). My Original milestone was to get above 300,000 but winter starting was getting to me but I got that far thru reading posts and using good ideas. In the end it was I good thing I changed it because I found the dreaded block cracks.
I now have 1000 miles on the current replacement motor(went with a low mileage military motor) that I'm still making minor adjustments on. Just a thanks to all who contribute to this forum, without it I would have never attempted my first engine swap.

Well, 83 Van is over 365K and I have not done anything other than tossing in fresh glow plugs, timing gears and a water pump. It uses a little bit of coolant over 90 days so it might be burning it. When I bought it in '97 I got a big repair file with it but it was all non-engine stuff. I thought when I bought it that the engine would be the biggest problem; turned out to be the best part of the van. It is on it's 3rd or 4th 700R4 though.

1991 6.2 Suburban R1500. Original motor and transmission. 322,000 miles this week. Bought new by my father-in-law in the summer of 1991. Passed on to me in 2000 with 186,000 miles. My daily driver, tows a racecar in the summer, hauls my wife's Brownie Girl Scout troop, doubles as a mobile doghouse on camping trips. Peeling roof paint, plenty of undercarriage rust, and I wouldn't trade it for the world!
