How is the ignition switch removed for replacement?

FarmerHerb,

one question do yo want to replace the ingnition switch or the key cylinder? they are two separate pieces.

The switch is a funky lookin' piece of bent tin with a teflon slider thingy (nice technical term don't you think?) on the top side of the steering column, held in place by two screws. You have to drop the column down do get to it. There is a connecting rod from the key cylinder to this piece of tin that moves it to the appropriate position. Make sure the key is "locked" before you remove the old switch and also make sure the new one is in that same position before you install it, or you get to dissassemble it and adjust it. PITA

The key cylinder is another story, pull steering wheel, pull signal switch, remove one screw from inside the column and using a bent rod or allen wrench depress a pin (found under the column cover) to let the cylinder free.

BE REEAALLLY CAREFUL around both not to deploy the airbag..... very loud.... very painfull

Hope this helps.
