I was curious what everyone thought was the best year of Duramax for those who have had several? I currently have an 01 K3500, 03 K2500 and a C5500 crew cab. The 03 is the most comfortable (SLT package) and gets decent mileage. However as far as power goes my 01 is more powerful than either of the other two. All have been utterly reliable. I am on the verge of trading my 01 and I am struggling with letting it go. Anyone else feel the early models were more powerful?

Yes. I tow with an '01 and an '05. Same trailers, same loads. The '01 is quicker empty, stronger loaded, and gets better fuel mileage overall.

My 205 does a nice job of towing. It doesn't have the "legs" that my 02 has for racing, but it's quite responsive and has very decent bottom end. With a few minor changes in the programming it will really come alive.

The LB7 will also pep up with some very minor changes as I am sure JJ can attest..

The 01 was a 3500 Crew Cab dooley, SLT and the 05 is a 3500 Crew Cab dooley, SLT. 01 LB7 get better mpg empty or loaded, infact much better loaded. 01 would get 11.5 to 12 mpg pulling the 12000 pound RV in my signature with a Harley in the bed. My 05 got 9.6mpg pulling 3 harleys and nothing else. My 05 gets 7.8 to 8 mpg pulling the RV with no harley in the bed.

05 is gone the day my ordered 06 showes up. I hope it is more like my 01 was. If it's anything like my 05 GM has lost another customer. 06 is my 7th GM 1 ton in a row.

That is about what I suspected. I was ready to pull the trigger on the 06 but I think I will wait until more are out and hear how they (LBZ)are pulling/mileage. Also the interior on the new Yukon's is very nice (precursor to the new HD's I presume)I may wait for the new body style.
