Hi,
Got a problem with the fuel gauge on my new (to me) C3500 (2002 with 6.6L) smile.gif . I was filling the back tank, topped it off and before I could get to the front tank, my son said he heard a snap or click behind the instrument panel and the fuel gauge went to empty and the fuel warning light came on. I have ran about 30 gallons out of the truck. The fuel transfer pump for the back tank is working fine and there are no other problems. ???? Is there a reset switch or breaker, fuse for the fuel indicator????
Thanks

Check your fuses. :)

Trucks equipped with dual tanks incorporate an electric transfer pump located about mid way back inside the driver's side frame rail. The vehicle ECM determines when it's time to transfer fuel, and will then energize a lift pump relay located in the electrical center under the hood, which then powers the lift pump. That relay activation might be what your son heard. The fact that the gauge went dead could mean the sender in the other tank (or its related wiring) might be at fault. I'd check that before considering a IP cluster problem....

If your fuel gauge is acting up it is probably the fuel level sending unit. GM knows about the problem but hasn't done anything about it yet. Mine was dong the same thing. Once my fuel level was around 1/4 full it would drop to empty everytime I applied the brakes. I had the chevy dealership check it out and it is the fuel level sending unit. I called the GM company in Detroit and they are working with me to get mine fixed. Everyone should call them so we can get a recall on the part. If we can prove there is a problem, they will fix your vehicle for free. Here is the number to call: 1-800-222-1020 or e-mail them at cac@chevrolet.com It cost over $700 to have a dealer replace the sending unit. Call the GM Customer Assistance and lets get this problem fixed!!!! Call Now!!!
