View Full Version : LB7 or LLY in my 94 Sub?

Hello all! i just purchased the duramax conversion from Jim, and should have it soon. Im going to do a conversion in my 1994 suburban. Ive driven the duramax about 5 times and love the pull of a duramax, from what i gather it seems that the LB7 has less power stock than an LLY, but the LB7 can be "chipped" in a way that it has MORE POWER than a chipped LLY. why is this so? So im kinda confused, i have both engines for sale in my neighborhood that are 2004 model years with less than 7,000 miles on them that i can purchase for around $4000. When i recieve the book i will start shopping for an engine, so tell me what you all think is the best engine to go for!

The conversion manual you just bought is for the LB7...

I would do the LB7 if it were me...

From what i see in TDP pull offs, it would be wiser to go with the LB7, man its pretty awesome what those engines can put out!!

The info in the book should work for the LLY as well. Personally, I would not get hung up on whether to choose an LB7/LLY/LBZ, but rather cost, condition and completeness of the package. ;)

As i too have been drawn into one of these conversions I personally am installing an lb7. With age parts are more readily available as well as knowledge due to more attempts being done with this motor. Good luck it will be nothing short of an adventure!!!

that sounds awesome!! not only does the project sound fun and exciting, but i cant wait till most people on the road have a hard time keeping up with my sub
