I Have A 2002 Duramax Crewcab W/allison Tranny, The Service Engine Lite Came On Yesterday. I Went To The Parts Store And The Diagnostics Read Out P0181 Code. The Pcm Has Determined That The Input Voltage From Engine Fuel Temparature Sensor "a" Is Out Of Range. Has Anyone Experienced This Before. Also I Have Not Cleared This Code Yet. Batteries Are Original With 32,000 Miles On The Truck.

I'd say that's why. There were some GM programming updates to help this, but I don't know if they were 100% cures. Please take some time to fill out your location and a bit about your vehicle.

I Live In Espanola,northern New Mexico. Elevation About 6000 Ft. I Have A Stock 2002 Crewcab. The Only Mod That I've Done Is K&n Air Filter. The Truck Has 32,000 Miles

I try to make it a point to not start an electronically controlled engine while the engine block heater is still plugged in. You never know if any AC leakage from the heating element or cord might affect the vehicle electronics. Always unplug before starting....:)

YES I ALWAYS UNPLUG BEFORE STARTING. JUST PUT NEW OPTIMA RED TOP BATTERIES IN AND LEFT DISCONNECTED FOR TWO HOURS. RECONNECTED AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LITE IS STILL ON. WHEN STARTING THE VOLTAGE GAGE SHOWES ABOUT 12V THEN JUMPS TO 14V. ANY SUGGESTIONS?:confused:

As John said this is a common problem .. Try a forum seach for "P0181" .. Here is one result .. SES light - Fuel Temp Sensor (http://72.22.76.69/tdpforum/showthread.php?t=12722&highlight=P0181+Code)

You could clear the code to see if it comes back and/or go to the dealer for a re-flash. How cold was it when using the block heater? Mine is usually in the garage but when traveling I try to plug it in for temps in the 20's and below.. It will start easily if colder but I prefer to use heater if possible.

Also, the 12V/14V behavior is normal .. voltage is 12V until the intake air heater turns off.
