I found two Trucks I like at the same dealer. Both trucks are the same color and each have the exact same options. The only difference is that ones an lly and the other is the lbz. The sticker price is $800 more for the lbz, plus The rebate difference is $1000 between the trucks. So, before I talk to the dealer about their price, the LLY is gonna be atleast $1,800 cheaper then the LBZ. Money is a issue, so I I'm thinking about going with the LLY.

Is there going to be a MPG difference between the two trucks?
Any Problems come up yet with the '06 LLY?

Thanks,
Dan

1) Is the truck for personal or business use?
2) How long do you expect to own the truck?
3) What type of use will the truck see?

1) Personal Use
2) Atleast 6 years
3) Towing a 9,500 lb. Boat in summer and towing a 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer in the winter.

I figure I'll put 12,000-14,000 miles per year on it.

lbz is worth $1800! $1800 is nothing compared to a $40,000 truck.

That LBZ sure runs good :) Well actually they both do but LBZ really gets with it.

Depends what you are doing for aftermarket programming. My take is that the engines are the same, just the programming that is different. Once you add programming, the lower power level truck often equals the higher power unit.

You also get a 6 speed Allison vs a 5 spd Allison.

Based on your responses, I'd buy the LBZ and enjoy the extra power and extra gear.

The 6 speed Allison was introduced in the 2006 M/Y. Either the LLY or LBZ will have it. I don't know if the internals of the tranny are different between the models, but I'd bet the TCM programming for the LBZ is updated to handle the additional power. The LBZ TCM may need less attention to deal with higher aftermarket power levels. On the same note, the LBZ will negate the need for aftermarket power adders for most people.

GM is back in the driver's seat again. Ford is forced to change engine designs, again, to keep up. Dodge won't be far behind, either.

They are the same truck. Only difference is in the programming. After coming from a '95, the LLY new is still wearing off. Can't say I really care that I could have paid more and gotten a little more more power. When that new fangled programmer comes out for these, I may just have to upgrade, but for now, 605 ft-lbs is pretty impressive....

(My bet is a cooperative dealer could just reflash it...)

Well, now there is an additional 1,000 off the LLY on top of the 1,800 earlier this week. I think i'm gonna bite the bullet and buy the LLY tomorrow. I plan to "juice it" so the power will be equal or greater once I do that. They both have the 6 speed Allison so the engine is the only difference.

Make sure it has the six speed. I haven't seen an LLY with the six speed on a lot yet! All had the five speed! 6 weeks ago it couldn't be had when I got my LBZ. You don't see any big difference in the LBZ except at full throttle in my opinion. In normal driving/towing both will be great. Either truck will make you happy. Remember they are always coming out with something new! Worrying about having the latest thing is too expensive.

If an LLY would have been available with a six speed when I bought mine it would have made me think!

Sweet deal! Enjoy.
