How much Weight Can I pull?

Not sure how the General Motors comes up with trailer towing weights? They have different amounts listed from 2003 2500HD Duramax to the 2005. Why is this? My firends manual (2003) says he can tow 14,700lbs. Mine says 12000lbs. What is the deal with that? Is it the GVRW, GCRW and Axel ratings one must watch? Do the tow ratings in the manual really mean anything?

My guess would be Ford & Dodge. All have up rated their towing weights and so the fight is on.

Your torque and H/P are different in newer units, and there may be subtle changes in the suspension.

A large part of "P/R" is braggin' rights.
