When To Change External Tranny Filter??

Doc, I put my 1.5 qt filter on my 700R4 last July? When should I get ready to replace it?

Putting an external filter on your truck transmission is an excellent idea. GM put one directly on the case of the Allison transmission. The external filter will catch much finer wear debris than the internal filter in the 4L80E or 4L60 transmissions. I would recommend for maximum protection that you change the transmission filter every time you change the engine oil and filter.

I am a little more tolerant - I change the transmission external filter every second engine oil change. I do drop the pan and change the internal filter and gasket every four years, but my truck sees at most about 6000 miles per year. I would not let the internal filter go more than 30,000 miles if you intend to keep the truck "forever."

Ok Thanks. I think I'm going to change over from Fram to the Wix filter this time. I wonder if they have it in the 1.5 qt size?
