John what do you charge to tune ones truck on your dyno? I would be willing to drive to your shop in the future to do this. I would love to get the potental out of my truck

Rate is $150/hr. Typically figure 1 hr minimum. I'm not much of a cloack watcher though, and usually pretty light on time calculations.

Hi JK, could you please outline what a "Dyno Tune" consists of? What improvements, HP/TQ wise, have you seen in the past?

If I remember correctly Mark gained 20'/pounds, was that timig only?

The Clevite Kid :D But that will slow your truck down from the extra weight. :D

JK charged me for the 'hour', but I was at his shop for closer to two hours. We must have done 12 pulls or more. I think there were about 10 miles more on the odometer when I left, if that gives you an idea of how many thrashes I am talking about!

If I remember correctly Mark gained 20'/pounds, was that timig only? Depends what there is to do. Setting timing is one thing. Adding/adjusting boost controls is another...

See my post 6.5 Performance (http://forum.thedieselpage.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006650) and the dyno data for some help answering that question.

Interestingly, the total combination helped significantly at 2550 RPM. Remember that the stock baseline on those plots was describing the electronic configuration. The mechanical configuration includes an intercooler, JK high pop injectors, K & N air filter and Banks 3" exhaust. So, the stock numbers are quite a bit better than what a truly stock 6.5 would put down. At 2550 RPM, I picked up 93 lb-ft with 9 lb-ft due to timing change and 45 hp. Notice how the green line (TDMax chip and boost control) at 2920 RPM diverges from the purple line (TDMax chip alone). The boost control added 23 lb-ft at that point and the timing added another 4 lb-ft for a total of 27 lb-ft and 44 hp. That, too, was noticeable while towing.

That bulge at around 2550 RPM was really significant from a real world, seat of the pants perspective. The bulge at 2550 rpm between the stock programming (this was with intercooler, high pop injectors, K&N filter and Banks exhaust, so it's not stock mechanically) and top curve is 93 lb-ft and 45 hp gain at that point. That's a 28% increase from 335 lb-ft to 428 lb-ft and 163 hp to 208 hp.

Looking at max torque at 2190 RPM, it went from 373 lb-ft to 428 lb-ft... a 15% increase.

Looking at max power at 3285 RPM, it went from 188 hp to 223 hp... a 19% increase.

Notice how the green line (chip + boost control without timing change) diverges from the purple line (chip only) at 2920 RPM? That is the difference in boost, pure and simple. That is noticeable when towing.

As Kennedy said, a lot of it depends on where you are starting and what condition the truck is in.

Good Day!

John's problem with extracting maximum profitability from his chassis dyno is that he's probably having at least as much fun running the test as you are watching it happen. :D

Blessings!
