I saw this link on the new Tahoes where they comment that diesel power is not planned.

There is a dedicated group of engineers and powertrain development people at GM who are currently involved with light-duty diesels - have been since - well forever..... They have had V-6 diesel engines and test mules since 2000. You can bet that somewhere in the GM skunkworks is a GMT-900 SUV with a V-6 diesel.... I know a 1500 series diesel pickup has been in development for more than a year.

However, the introduction of light-duty diesels has always been "2-3 years out"...... This may not change until one of GM's competitors breaks trail...

And to think, I thought GM was the leader. What stop with the Duramax :(

GM's current financial state may preclude the company from being first to the table with anything new in the next couple years. The 2007 Tahoe seems to lean heavily toward technology that has been tried and true for several years. IMHO, the 2007 release is more of a "refresh" than a "redesign".

In 2001, GM/Isuzu were poised to launch the 5.0L V-6 Duramax as soon as Ford launched its 4.5L V-6 PSD.... Ford/Navistar's V-6 deal fell apart soon afterward and so did the V-6 Dmax. :(

My perception is that the love of diesels doesn't extend too far up the food chain... The debacle with Stanadyne in the 90's and the more recent 2001/02 Bosch injector warranty extension may play a part in the decision making. Just a guess....
