Have a look at the engine sitting in the green race car (http://trident-vehicles.co.uk/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=29&Itemid=45), and tell me whether you think it's a twin turbo 6.5TD.... :)

They also have Duramax powered versions..... :D

It's a 6.6 litre V8 TD they say they got from GM. I'd say it's a Duramax. They list it in the specs for their new model. They rate it at 375 hp and 520 lb/ft.

That's a 10 on the cool meter!

The specs scream Duramax, but that's not a picture of one. Stamped valve covers and 4 injector lines over each, in just the right shape for a 6.5/6.2.

They do have 2 models; road and race. And appear to have several copies of each. Could be photos from one, and specs from another.

The engine in the green car is definitely a 6.2/6.5L engine. I don't believe the 6.6L uses injection lines running over the top of the valve covers, eh? :D

Which reminds me of a customer who came in this week and told me he had a 6.5L Duramax in his 2005 Chevy! :D

Looks like a 6.5 in the green car. Kind of like the Willie Nelson bio fuel story. I guess the write up is to so shock and awe with the numbers of the Duramax 6.6. I wonder what all they did to the 6.5 and how it compares. Looks like its definately not a slouch.

I wonder if at higher speeds it really helps with cooling and performance. I mean lugging up a hill pulling a trailer has to be a little different load than zipping along with a radiator and/or intercooler "in the wind". Imagine significant forced cool ram air intake affect helping the turbo spool easier ????, and some real air cooling. ????? I'll have to look again at the pics.

Thier own specs say it's a 6.6 litre, iron block, aluminum head, 4 valve per cylinder, common rail direct injection engine. Think about it, it must have taken some major redesign of all the engine external components to fit that size of diesel into a sportscar under the hood. Who knows what they had to do to it. After all, the Brits are great at sticking big engines in little spaces, remember the Sunbeam Tiger? A '60s MG sized car with a Ford small block V8. :eek:

The major question is 'Why a Duramax or a 6.5'? The weight of that thing in there far out-weighs (pardon the pun) the power it puts out. I don't know the weight of the duramax, but for comparison, the street version of the BMW 4.9 litre V8 puts out 400 hp and weighs about 380 lbs.

Trying to run through corners with 1000 lbs of iron on the front wheels can't be all that much fun.

Bio D demonstrator ??? Bio wouldn't run too well in a gasser, more money than sense ??? just because ??? Still high on the cool meter for whatever the reason

Iirc, a kit company bought the tube-chassis'ed fiberglass kit-car from Cheetah, installed a Ford 289, 302, or 351 in it back in the late 60's-70's, sold it as the TRIDENT, similar in appearance to those cars, butcept smaller.

Much smaller.

Barely room for two short people, but extremely fast - something like 0-60 in 2-3 seconds.

Interesting, if that's the same company.

The twin turbos are down in front of the engine, directly fed from each exhaust manifold, and each directly feeding into the bottom of the vertical-path charge-air cooler.

The BMF tubing pair over the top of the engine brings the cooled air from the c-a cooler to the intakes on each head, with an equalizer hose across the back.

The exhaust from each turbo is thru each large but short muffler over each fender-well

Right?
