Fuel Filter Element Housing

Anyone know of a rebuild kit for the oem fuel filter element housing. The housing that cost $550.00 new from the dealer. Not sure what's all in the housing, guessing the primer bulb, bleed screw and heating element? Why can't they make a rebuild kit to replace the o-rings and diaphram in the primer bulb?

Also, the other route I was looking to go would be if I'm gonna have to spend $500 i might as well get a good filtration system and maybe a lift pump. I know FASS makes a pump/filter combo, but was wondering if anyone has run a setup that completely bypasses the oem filter. I've seen pre/post filters, but not sure if any are completely bypassing them. Don't see why not. Would still have to run fuel through the fuel control moduel i guess to cool it.

The only reason I can think of for NOT bypassing the OEM filter system is drivetrain warranty.....oh and physical space limitations. With 100,000 miles of warranty it'd take a long time to be out of warranty. However, if you already are out of warranty I'd say go for it. Make sure the pump/filter assembly has a heater if you are in a cold climate area.

Warranty? oh, that thing that ran out before everything started breaking... yeah, that's long gone. And as far as cold climate... I live in central Texas, so should be ok but I think the FASS system has a heater...

You don't have to replace it with the OEM ass'y. Greg at www.lubricationspecialist.com sells Racor filter assy's, with and w/o the same features (heater, WIF sensor, primer) of the OEM, at a higher efficiency, and way less $$. If a person were to replace their OEM with one having the same features or better, I don't think GM would have a problem with it.
