I have a 96 K3500 crewcab with 220K, the harmonic balancer broke free of the crankshaft. Which now renders the truck useless. I am a broke college student, and need my truck cause it is a lot cheaper to drive than my wagoneer. The 6.5 ran great didn't smoke started right up everytime. I know I need to buy a new crankshaft which isn't cheap. I am considering just overhauling the engine with a new crank. But I like the idea of a new remanufactured engine to just drop in. Cause I only have a week between symesters to repair the truck.

My question is who sells a good quality 6.5 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. And is anybody running one. I don't do a lot of pulling since I started back to college but I still like to pull my project cars.

Sorry to hear of the broken engine.

I'd suggest finding a used engine from a wrecked 1999 or 2000. There is alot of information here on the best block castings numbers from the later 6.5s to look for. Search on 'castings' and you'll have enough to read for a few hours.

You should be able to find a complete engine with under 100,000 miles for 3- 5K.
