dumb....my red line should be 3500 then instead of the 4800.....
yamaha found out there 600r bikes wouldnt rev. to red line and they offered to buy the bikes back..im not giving my duarmax up over it, but seems like a deseption at the minimum..

There is a real reason the redline is at 4800. This redline is for compression (grade braking). The computer will manage your RPM's under load, so it's pretty pointless to have a redline for load. This was changed from previous designs, as many customers were complaining the grade braking was allowing the engine to rev past the "redline". Although the operation was completely normal, and designed to operate that way, the public wasn't understanding it. A tach on the Duramax trucks is really just for looks. You can't do anything to force the engine into a condition that will hurt it. Aftermarket programs can up the limit, but in OEM configuration, it just won't happen. Even on compression, it will upshift to keep it from crossing the line.
Comparing a motorcycle to a HD pickup is about as far into apples and oranges you can get.

i was using the motorcycle thing only in the rpm area....yamaha put a redline of 16500 and it wouldnt get there...just like my duramax..

but thanks for the explanation..makes more sence now..
