I changed my 245's to 265's and now that it is almost time to change tires again are there any issues with going to 285's?

I have read (here) that lots of folks use them. I have had them on for over a year now and like the extra width for off road.
Don't try to buy them at Costco like I first did - they won't install them because of Allison's rant about size. However, Costco did knock off $20 for installation and throw them in the back of the truck for me.

You can, but don't raise you're torsion bars from the factory hieght, it changes the geometry of the steering linkage and you will put too much torque on the tie rods when you're in 4 wheel drive. I've done it, and I could watch my wheels point towards each other when I accelerated in 4x4.

Has anyone tried 285/70R17 tires? Of course you can't use the stock rim but you really shouldn't use the stock rim with a 265/75R16 or a 185/75R16 per tire specs. Alcoa makes the 17" rim for the 2500HD in a 8" width and the 16" in a 7" width. Wider rim will give a better foot print and not quite as tall a tire too. Toyo makes a nice Load Range E tire in the 285/70R17 which may give me the best of both worlds. Larger width/diameter for the sand and a much higher load rating than stock.

I've read hear about people using OEM H2 rims which are 17" x 8.5" but I haven't been able to find out what the load rating of that rim is. The Alcoa 17" rim is rated at 3450.

I had 285 BFG's on my 02 2500. Little rubbing issues. Put on aftermarket wheels, and big time rubbing issues. Raised the torsion bars and had to trim back some of the black plastic on the bottom side of the front bumper. Rub dissapeared. But they look good.

Was your rubbing limited to the air dam or also inside at full wheel turn?

How many turns of the torsion bars?

What size aftermarket wheels did you put on? 7" width or more?

Were your tires 285/75R16?

The backspace on the 17" rims from Alcoa is identical to the 16" rims but since the rim width is 8" vs. 7" for the 16" rims I assume the center of the wheel moves outword about .5"

Make sense?

Hello All, First Thread- Great site you have hear.
I just put 305/50-R20's Nitto's on my truck, with new keys or pork chops some people call them -to level out the front end and a front end alignment. We had to trim alittle of the plastic off the front lower air dam to prevent rubbing. The only time I have heard it rub is while turning hard either way Full lock or close to it and going over something or down into something-offroad-

My Dealer told me if I put 285 tires on my truck it could void the tranny warr. Has anyone had the same issue?

My dealer has a sign from GM that says that driveability issues can not be addressed unless 245 tires are on the truck. I saved my OEM's for just such an evantuality but after 75,000 miles with the Edge no problems with Allison but the tires are still in the garage until 100,000 mile warranty expires.

I have 295 BFGs on my factory rims. No problems with anything. 50,000+ miles. Still have my OEMs in the shed in case I have to take it back to the Stealer. It has been there twice for inspection sticker and front end alignment with the big tires. They never looked twice and everthing went smooth.
