Just got my report back. I've got a 2004.5 with 63K on the clock, running Amsoil 15W-40 Heavy Duty Diesel and Marine, with Amsoil Dual remote by-pass system.

I have 11,312 miles on this sample. We have been doing 10K drains because of the high copper levels that most are aware of. I could of left the last batch in but decided to see it one last time. Now things have stabilized and we will be keeping this in as long as we can. The filters are the new Amsoil Nano Fiber filters for both air and full flow oil and bypass.

We tow our 5th wheel with it as well as other trailers. We do a far amount of hiway miles and the balance is city and rural.

Iron 9
Chromium 0
Lead 12
Copper 18
Tin 0
Silver 0
Silicon 8
Soot .01
TBN 9.75
OX% 5.0
NITR% 7.0
VIS 15.1 (Range is 12.5-16.3 it starts out new at about 14.3)

As you can see their is know reason to dump it. Next sample will be at 20K miles on the oil and we will be changing the full flow filter as well.

Landuytg...
Here are 2 of my reports on my 05 from Blackstone. 1st one at 16k on the truck next one at 24k on truck.

7565 miles on Rotella syn. 5/40
Iron 18
Chromium 1
Lead 2
Copper 11
Tin 4
Silver 0
Silicon 18
Soot none
TBN 9.0
Vis. 80.8
The viscosity was really high for some unknown reason and the silicon was high because when i took it to the dealer to have the hydraboost inspected the dummy that checked it must have leaned on the 6.6 duramax thing on top and loosened it to the point that it was pulling unfiltered air for approx. 40 miles before I noticed a loss of power and checked it out.

7630 miles on Mbile syn. 5/40
Iron 14
Chromium 0
Lead 2
Copper 10
Tin 3
Silver 0
Silicon 10
Soot
TBN 1.8
Vis. 70.5

Do these analisys look fairly normal??

No that does not look normal at all. What kind of oil are you using and what kind of driving do you do?

I used rotella synthetic 5/40 on the first analisys. Then when I saw the viscosity go up I switched to Mobile syn. 5/40 and have been using that ever since. I have 30k on my truck now and I need to change my oil sometime soon here. I pull anywhere from 16k to 28k gross combination somewhere around half my miles. The other half I don't use it hard mostly just transportation. You can see in my signature what I have on my truck. If you need to contact me personally my e-mail is leewood@runbox.com I am definitely interested in switching to amsoil.

WILLY,

What were Blackstones

Bill
I have never used Blackstone and was not aware of their testing method. It all makes good since now.

With respect to the low TBN I wonder how much towing was done during the period? Amsoil says when it gets to 3 to change oil. I havew never had anything less than 8.5.

Bill will you be at the rendezvous?

jplock..

Thank you for the info.

Here is their reply on the second sample.

LEE: Nice improvement. You can see your engine maturing in wear, as you ran this oil a little longerthan the last and bearing wear improved slightly. You might find silicon drops a few ppm more with thenext oil change or two as well. Insolubles (oil oxidation due to heat, use and blow-by) were normal at
0.3%, showing good oil filtration and complete combustion. The TBN read 1.8, on the low side and not showing much active additive remaining. We consider any reading at 1.0 or lower to be too low to add miles to the oil change interval. Check back.

I don't know how they do their TBN testing but it must be a little different than amsoil.

???? how much do you guys pay for a analysis, isn;t just a cheaper to replace the oil instead of testing/ time/worry about results, I replaced my oil @ 1000k and going to replace it this weekend @ 3k and will be replacing it @ 4-5k intervals, I really do not care about the cost of the oil/filter I just like a clean crankcase/eng ( plus it gets me away from the wife) right now I am runing rotella and around 10k will be going to mobil 1, I have been doing this for ever and my burban has 200k nothing what so ever wrong, my 04 CC4x HD gasser went 90k, 99SD 4xV-10 82k, 92yukon 4x 5.7 189k, 85 mustang GT 180k and 79 f100 2x 302 288k not a problem with any motors at all

I have quite a bit of experience dealing with oil analysis in the aviation industry. Two things stand out. First, never try to compare raw numbers between different labs. Second, oil analysis is best for analyzing trends within an engine and not to much use comparing single sets of readings between engines.

It is most usefull after you have established a baseline for your engine. You can then look for significant deviations from the norm.
