I currently have 15", white-painted, 6-lug, steel wheels on my 2-axle, 9000+lb. TT (the tires are "D" rated 225/75/R15). I want to replace the wheels with nice-looking, low-maintenance wheels (aluminum?) wheels with an adequate load rating.
I am told that it is difficult to locate a 15" aluminum wheel with a 2250+lb. load rating. I believe I have the clearance to go with 16" wheels, but I would have to buy new tires and my between-the-tires chocks may no longer work....
Any ideas, thoughts, cautions, warnings, sources for purchase, etc. are appreciated. Thanks.
Jim M.
I'm interested as well. 16" aftermarket aluminum trailer wheels are a bit pricey. Will 6 lug Chevy truck 16" OEM aluminum wheels work on a travel trailer with 6 lug axles..??

I think Roy is on the right track. If we can find vehicle wheels that will fit various Dexter axles, then we can get takeoffs from e-bay.
When looking for wheels just measure your backspacing and ask for a lt truck wheel. Also companies that make these wheels will have ratings on them. If I remember correctly I saw a set in a jegs catalog made by american racing. Just remeber when using aluminuim wheels that curb damage is easier to happen then with a steel wheel so be careful.
As hug stated above, make sure you get the rating. I tried to get a set of "Alcoa" alum 6 lug 16" for my trailer, and they don't have them with the rating I need on my trailer. Some manufacturers offer alum wheels on their TT's as an option, but to buy them at the parts counter, ($$$-Wow!) Several companies make alum wheels, but the rating and back spacing must also match your application.

I've never been able to locate the rating in pounds on a wheel, but if a 6 lug Z-71 aluminum wheel will fit, wouldn't it handle a load range D tire (2500 lbs at 65 psi)..????
A 6 lug z-71 wheel is stamped on the back at 2000lbs. I wanted to do the same thing till I saw this.
