I had (well, still have) a 2002 Ford F150 Supercab 4x4 Lariat with the 5.4L engine. It's been a good truck until recently when I started pulling the new boat with it. Two days ago on Interstate 5 I blew a cylinder head (only 65k miles on the truck). I decided I wanted a diesel. I used to have a 2002 Powerstroke Crew Cab but have been curious about the Duramax. So yesterday I went shopping and found a 2003 Duramax with only 25k miles on it.

Here's what I bought:

2003 2500 HD Duramax. Regular Cab. 2 WD. 25k miles. 5 Speed Automatic Allison transmission.

This is my first ever Chevy truck. What can I expect for fuel economy with this regular cab 2WD? I've seen others mention 18-22 mpg when empty. That would be nice.

Also, I assume the original powertrain warranty is 5 years/100k miles, right?

Anything else I need to know about these trucks?

just you have bought the best selling truck on the planet, kidding aside. I used to have a 99 SD and I loved it, then I got a 04HD 6.0 Gasser and I loved it too, now I have a 06 LBZ and it is AWSOME, but my favorate truck was a 79 2x 8ft regcab 302 ford, and a 92 GMC Yukon 2dr

Congrats on the "new to you" truck. The engine and various engine subsystems (fuel injection system, water pump, and so on) are covered by GM for 5 years or 100,000 miles. Your owners manual will list the various engine related components that are covered. The transmission and the rest of the truck are covered for just 3/36....

If you can drive as though the "Low Fuel" light is on and you're still 50 miles from the nearest fuel station, you could get highway mileage in the low 20's. :) It is possible.... If you're a 75-80 kind of guy.... it'll be less.

Good luck,

Jim
