How noisy is your lift pump?

On the '96 Hoe the lift pump is pretty noisy when I first turn the key then it get's quiet when it makes pressure, normal. Just here lately it's getting louder that I can hear the thumping in the cab with the engine already running...

This to me means I have a leak, or am sucking air somewhere, because it's not making good pressure (no I have not measured the psi yet)..

Or maybe the pump is singing it's "i'm dying song"

I have to "get in tune" with the glow plug cycle to hear the change in the pump. So, it's fairly quiet during teh "boot up" stages, and can't hear it at all when the engine fires.

Getting noisier may not be good...
