Any idea what the aproximate weight of a ready to drop 6.5 is? What about with (attached to) an automatic L80E 4spd. overdrive transmission?

Thanks

Awesome...that's close enough. I had no idea....I thought maybe in the 1500-2200 range for engine and tranny!

I don't know for sure, but I shipped a long block, sans intake manifold, and no accessories other than the injection pump, and it tipped the scales at exactly 1000 lbs with the crate. The crate couldn''t have been more than 50 lbs or so.

A fully dressed long block will be in the neighborhood of 1000+ lbs. and can be more depending on accessories included. Other things that will increase weight is fluids (coolant, oil, etc.). Same goes for the tranny, 220-270 lbs, depending on internal components (different TC's weigh different), and if it's full of fluid.

If it's on the heavy side of comfort, drain all fluids and remove the accessories. They can easily be replaced once the engine is installed. If it's a 4x4, the transfer case will add a bunch of weight as well.

I've R&R'd several long blocks of all flavors, and for the past 20 years, I've not used an engine hoist. I'm fortunate enough to have a friend with a towing business about 1/2 mile from me. The best hoist to use is a wrecker boom.

a stock converter from a diesel 4l80e weighs over 80 pounds by itself.
