Hello All,

I was looking at a std 6.5 piston and would like to know if it will work in a 6.2 engine. 1 because it is a good deal and 2 always wanted to do it. it is a 19:1 piston which will lower the compression of the 6.2. How much would i have to bore the engine?

thank you all in advance,
Don

Hi Don!

These engines are all metric. The bore is 101mm (=6217ccm) for the 6.2
and 103mm (=6466ccm) in the 6.5. I've seen lots of old topics in this forum
regarding the good or bad in increasing the bore by 2mm. I haven't tried it
myself yet, but i think i would prefer a 6.2 with turbo instead of going 6.5.

Nope, won't work in all engines.

The bore size can be thinner in some 6.2 blocks and thicker in others. The 6.2 block I cut was slightly thinner than the 6.5 specimen I received.

Not worth the gamble of assembling the engine to have a cylinder wall crack as reported by More Power.

6.2 block with a cast ending in '660, use 6.2 pistons.
6.2 block with a cast ending in '599, use 6.2 or 6.5 pistons depending on bore.
