The holidays are over and finally my Suburban is now at the local "diesel only" mechanic. He listened to it running previously, and said definitely the passenger side lifters were making noise, possibly the plastic retaining clips have failed or broken, estimated that alone will cost about $350 total to repair, though I am aware more serious damage could be discovered. My question to all of you is what questions do I need to ask of him? What things do I need to make sure he checks while its in the shop? Also, are there questions I need to ask to determine his level of expertise and ability to rebuild a 6.5L TD engine,if a rebuild is necessary?
