I've looked in history files and the troubleshooting guide but I'm not sure what isssue I have. I have a 96 w/ 150k on the clock, drive it everyday. I went to start it up yesterday and the rpm's raced up and down then it shut off, had a boat load of black smoke, so I know it is getting way to much fuel. I could restart it and it would do the same thing several times. I've had a FSD fail on my last 96 and when it was time it just stopped working. So is my IP on the way out ?

Thanks
Mark

Could be either the FSD or the fuel solenoid itself. No good way to tell other than try a different FSD.

'Raced up & down, ' ? how far up did the rpm go???

I think there is an overspeed shut down if the PMD
drives the IP solenoid "ON" ( full fuel ).

any codes???

No codes and it restarted it 4 or 5 times so I could move it to get my other truck out. I'm headed out to replace the FSD, but if it is the fuel solenoid can just that be changed ?

Thanks
