I've got a set of aftermarket Boyd's 16x8 wheels - currently running 265 'C' rated tires. I'm wanting to upgrade to 'E' tires, but want to make sure the wheels are rated appropriately.

The only thing I can find on the back of the wheels is a stamp with "DOT" and a letter, rather than a number rating.

Does anyone know of a chart or other source depicting a DOT class designation and associated load ratings?

I've done a web search and on here to no avail.

Thanks. Joe.

You will have to contact the wheel manufacturer for the rating. The wheel rating system is very vague, compared to tire ratings.

It's amazing how many folks are running HD tires with significantly underrated wheels. Just because it has 8 lug holes, doesn't mean it will meet the rating of the tires you are running. Too much marketing of "cosmetic" truck accessories these days. Most tire shops don't even watch for it.

Good thinking on the tire upgrade. Unless you are running unloaded all the time (NEVER towing or heavy cargo), C rated tires will get you into trouble quick.
