Timing Meters and Luminosity Probes

Trying to figure out the answer to a question. I've seen people say that either the MT160 or MT161 luminosity probes will work in the 6.2/6.5 engines.

From the SnapOn website searching for the MT1480A brings up this page: http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/parts/pro_det.asp?Item_id=10965&group_id=8349

There the MT160 is listed for the 4.3/5.7 with no mention of 6.2/6.5.

Is it just a matter of the probe being of the correct size to screw into the glowplug hole? Or is there some other difference as well?

Shows compression tester adapters for the 4.3/5.7 (MVA5603) and the 6.2/6.5 (MVA5604) - which look considerably different. If the luminosity probes are equally different I don't exactly see them being interchangable.

Just snagged myself another timing meter that came with both the MT160 and MT161 probes. My first glance is that they look the same. The thread pitch is the same, so it would probably work. I'll take a closer look soon and see, I want to use the meter to test it's operation and compare it to my other one.

*noob alert* What the heck are you guys talking about? im assuming its a timing light that runs off a mag on the balencer?

The SnapOn timing meters used a luminosity probe that threaded into a glowplug hole to actually "see" combustion in the cylinder - sort of a photosensor of sorts - since you don't have a "spark" to sense as on a gas engine.
