Hi Guys,

Just wanted to know if someone can email (or post here) a "how to" guide for the Callibration of the IP on a 91 6.2. Pics would also be nice if possible :D

My 6.5 (block only, everything else is 6.2) has a serious lack of power but never blows any smoke reguardless of the load it is under which makes me beleive it maybe a problem with the IP (besides I like to tinker :o )

Thanks

Hello
Well IP work is not for the average wrench. It takes specialized tools and test equipment to do.
Albeit its not hard but requires costly equipment to do.
Take the pump to a shop that does it and have them check it out.

Fairly certain he's just wanting to crank up the fuel, which is a simple screw adjustment thru the side of the IP.

Remove the intake manifold, remove the large screw on the throttle-arm side of the IP, rotate the crank till the hex-head adjusting screw is visible thru the hole, rotate the screw 1/8th turn clockwise, button everything back up, and try it out.

Remember - black smoke is high EGT's, so moderation is the keyword.

Try searching this forum and the 6.2 forum - the procedure has been done and described on several occasions.

Thanks, this is what I was after :)

The pump may still need a rebuild and/or full callibration but like said, I'll leave that part to the guys with the gear and IP smarts.

For clarification, the adjusting screw is a hex-socket, or allen socket-head screw.

FYI - 1/8th turn is a lot of fuel, so start there to preclude having to go back in and turn it down.

Alternately, you can pull the top cover off the IP, but that ingress requires further disassembly of the IP throttle shaft and governor stuff, iirc - not even fun

Do a search for Brittanic - he posted exact timing procedures\specs for the mech IP required to net max power.

Good luck, and happy feet to ya................
