It was covered under your 5year/100k mile warranty which might be expired. When did the truck get purchased? You can buy the part for about $300 and change it out in about 2 hours. I've done a few.

where is it located ? I thought it was the box on the top of the passenger side of the engine with the fuel lines coming in and out of it

Steve, I'd take it in. Double check your hours as well. The warranty is good for 100,000 miles/3000 hrs. Doubt that you'd have too much touble having only 78,000 miles on the clock. Mine started acting up around 60,000 mile but didn't get it in until I had 99,400 miles and just a tick under 3000 hours.

Also even though the production date is 8-01 when did you sign for the truck? That's when the warranty actually starts.

It's in the front of the V. It's attached to the injection pump.

You should check your emissions warranty. It looks like you should be able to get it done there for $0. That is what I did.
