View Full Version : Fusible link on glow plug circuit
Anyone know the size of the fusible link on the glow plug circuit? All of my manuals are still packed and I can't find them. This is for the main feed line for the glow plugs. The wiring is 8ga, which tells me the link should be 12ga, but I wanted to make sure before I built that section of my engine harness.
Thanks!
I think it's 50 amps for each bank.
The links are not rated in amps - they are sold by wire size. Rule of thumb is that the link should be 4 sizes smaller than the circuit they are protecting. Just wanted to see if the glow circuit was the same. Right now I have an 8ga wire feeding the solenoid.

Mine was actually in metric. However, if the rule of thumb is 4 sizes and you have 8ga, then 16 ga would be the correct size, not 12ga. Wire size in gauge goes from:
20-18-16-14-12-10-8-6-4-2 etc.
When replacing the wire my mechanic said 2 sizes was the "basic" rule. If thats the case, then 8-12 would be the correct sizing.
hope this helps

Sorry, I should have worded that better - 4 numbers or 2 wire sizes is what I was trying to say, so we are saying the same thing. Know what I am saying? :)
I have the AWG to metric table somewhere. IIRC they translate as folllows-
12 ga -> 3.0 mm^2
14 ga -> 2.0 mm^2
16 ga -> 1.0 mm^2
18 ga -> 0.5 mm^2
