Question on the water temp sensor. 89 truck, does the visual water temp gauge (in the cab), and the check engine light (for overtemperature) get the signal from the same sensor? Can a "bad" sensor give one a 30/40 degree high reading?

Not sure about OBDI, but OBDII has the PCM sensor on the thermostat housing and the gauge sensor on the front of the driver's side head.

I am hoping there is only one sensor for both. If there are two independent sensors then I have an overheating problem.

Was hoping for an answer to this before the weekend. Anyone with an 89 manual to answer the question?

C/K or R/V series ? Most of the temp sensors for the ECM are 2 wire , black and yellow . Temp gauge is usually one wire , green I think .

3/4 ton 4x4, extended cab, 6.2 original, so K series. Are the wires from the same sensor?

I have an 88 manual , for all gas engines , and the ECM temp sensor has yellow and black wires . The sensor for the temp gauge is separate .
