View Full Version : Embarrassed to drive my truck, actually stop that is
When I stop I notice a huge cloud of smoke go up. There are a couple of problems contributing to this, excessive blowby with a questionable CDR valve and an oil leak onto an exhaust manifold. I will be taking a second stab at fixing the oil leak, but it really doesn
The CDR is designed to keep excess oil from pulling over and to provide a constant low pressure in the crankcase. The vacuum is in inches of water so its light duty.
The idea is to keep oil leaks from happening and to suck out excess blow by.
If you remove the oil filler cap there should be a small amount of smoke/ fumes coming out, with a slight increase in engine rpm this should go away.
Essentially, the CDR is a very low pressure high volume vacuum regulator, considering that vacuum is indicator for reduction in atmospheric pressure psia
The CDR limits max vacuum to ~4-6" water column at 2000rpm
Your press\vac gage is calibrated in inches mercury column - "HG, and pounds per square inch gage - psig
27"H20 = 2"HG = 1psi
I posted a simple easy-to-build water column manometer a while back, or you can use Bill Heath's even simpler method, posted on his site, to check your crankcase ambience.
